Celebrating French Cinema: Selections from Scarecrow’s Wishlist Collection

Scarecrow Video is partnering with The Grand Illusion Cinema and Alliance Francaise de Seattle to present Celebrating French Cinema: Selections from Scarecrow’s Wishlist Collection. This series will offer a closer look at two acclaimed yet rarely-screened touchstones of French cinema, each featuring an introduction and post-film discussion lead by Alliance Francaise.

While Scarecrow is known for maintaining and growing one of the world’s largest collections of film, there are always titles that are more difficult to acquire because of cost or availability. With the help of a generous donor, we developed The Wishlist Collection, a quarterly spotlight of highly-lauded but seldom-seen works ranging from European imports, seminal avant-garde collections, and important rarer works from legendary directors’ filmographies.

The final screening in this series is:

Tuesday, April 23:  Pattes Blanches (White Paws) – 1949 – dir. Jean Grémillon

A stellar cast portrays an eccentric man’s dangerous pursuit of a saloon keeper’s girlfriend. A treat from one of the great golden age directors of French cinema.
