Join us Saturday, June 4 at 2:00PM PDT for our next Flying Saucer Cinema event, a discussion of the classic, prescient 1973 film SOYLENT GREEN! Mark Daniels and Eric Cohen will lead this interactive online Zoom event. Daniels is a longtime Scarecrow volunteer and guest host on the podcast “Treks in Sci-Fi,” while Cohen has helped lead a monthly psychotronic film club for the past five years.
In an overpopulated, polluted and starving New York City of the future, NYPD detective Robert Thorn (Charlton Heston) investigates the murder of an executive at rations manufacturer Soylent Corporation. With the help of elderly academic Solomon “Sol” Roth (Edward G. Robinson), Thorn begins to make real progress — until the governor mysteriously pulls the plug. Obsessed with the mystery, Thorn steps out from behind the badge and launches his own investigation into the murder.
Participants are strongly encouraged to watch the film before the event. Rent it from Scarecrow or check here for streaming options. This program is free but registration is required here.
Hungering for more classic science fiction? Under the same Flying Saucer Cinema banner, Cohen and Daniels will be teaching an IN-PERSON science-fiction film class this summer at North Seattle College! For details about the program, including dates, times, and sign-up information, click here.
