New Releases for August 23!

It’s another Glorious New Release Tuesday!

Our favorite release this week is Shane Black’s buddy comedy/noir throwback THE NICE GUYS (@ BLU). Set in 70’s Los Angeles and starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling as a couple of mismatched, frequently bumbling private eyes, it has that perfect concoction of mystery, action, and humor that you’d expect from the guy who brought you the still-somehow-underappreciated KISS KISS BANG BANG, even if he’s sort of grown up a little. Look out for the Richard Nixon cameo.

As for the rest, don’t forget to check out the following: Speaking of buddy action movies, all-timer MIDNIGHT RUN (@ BLU) finally lands on blu-ray. The Heroes at the Criterion Collection have a blu-ray upgrade of classic Japanese psychodrama THE WOMAN IN THE DUNES (@ BLU), as well as a new release of Tony Richardson’s British “Kitchen Sink” drama A TASTE OF HONEY (@ BLU). Early John Ford western 3 BAD MEN (@ BLU). Inexplicable sequel HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR (BLU). SPIDERS (@ BLU) is like Indiana Jones from the director of METROPOLIS. Arrow has vintage giallo THE BLOODSTAINED BUTTERFLY (@ BLU). Warner Archive has a new MOD blu of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (@ BLU). Camp spy classic MODESTY BLAISE (@ BLU). And on the TV front, Hail to the King with ASH VS. EVIL DEAD: SEASON 1 (@ BLU), and we’ve also got THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 6 (BLU).
