First up, the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have brought us THE COMPLETE LADY SNOWBLOOD (@ BLU). A young woman (the legendary Meiko Kaji), trained from childhood as an assassin and hell-bent on revenge for the murders of her father and brother and the rape of her mother, hacks and slashes her way to gory satisfaction in turn-of-the-twentieth-century Japan. Hugely influential both in Japanese and American cinema (KILL BILL, anyone?), this is a must have for genre fans.

 

Then, one of the best movies of 2015 is here, the drug war thriller SICARIO (@ BLU). Emily Blunt plays an idealistic FBI agent recruited by the Department of Justice (and maybe the CIA) for a secret mission in Mexico. What follows tests every one of her principles and might even get her killed. Look out for the amazing cinematography from all-time great Roger Deakins.
