It’s another Glorious New Release Tuesday at Scarecrow!

First up is an amazing new release from Arrow Films & Video, a 5-film set of the STRAY CAT ROCK Series (@ BLU). We’ll let them tell you about it.

“The STRAY CAT ROCK series stars Meiko Kaji (BLIND WOMAN’S CURSE) who with these five films began her reign as the badass action queen of the era. In these five tales (several of which have never been released in the US) of rebellious youth she stars alongside the gorgeous Bunjaku Han (LOVE LETTER) and Tatsuya Fuji (IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES).  Directed by genre veterans Yasuharu Hasebe (FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION: #701’S GRUDGE SONG) and Toshiya Fujita (LADY SNOWBLOOD) the films feature a psychedelic mix of girl gangs, bikers, sex, drugs and rock and roll with plenty of ass-kicking to boot, all captured in a delirious mash up of pop aesthetics including split screens, freeze frames, injections of color, frenetic editing and dizzying angles, making these films a riotous joy from beginning to end.”

Then, the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have a blu-ray upgrade of Alain Resnais’ classic romance HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR (@ BLU), a cornerstone of the French New Wave and one of the most influential films of all time.

“A French actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada) engage in a brief, intense affair in postwar Hiroshima, their consuming mutual fascination impelling them to exorcise their own scarred memories of love and suffering. With an innovative flashback structure and an Academy Award–nominated screenplay by novelist Marguerite Duras, HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR is a moody masterwork that delicately weaves past and present, personal pain and public anguish.”
