CODE 3: COMPLETE SERIES
In 1957, Hal Roach Studios and producer Ben Fox brought the fast-paced police drama Code 3 to television. It starred Richard Travis as Sheriff George Barrett of the Los Angeles County Police Department, with Denver Pyle as Sgt. Murchison and Fredd Wayne as Sgt. Bill Hollis. Like its sister series Dragnet, Code 3 featured true crime cases – this time from the files of the search and rescue branch of the Los Angeles Police Department – always “changing the names to protect the innocent.” At the end of most of the broadcasts, the real-life Sheriff of Los Angeles County, Eugene W. Biscailuz, made an appearance to recap that night’s adventure. (DVD)

GILDED LILY (1935)

J.C. (1972)
Jesus Christ is born again on Earth. Anyone who adopts the initials J.C. as a nickname probably has a Messianic complex. In Iron Horseman, the hero, the head of a motorcycle gang, wigs out on LSD. While day-tripping, he has a prophetic religious vision. THE JERK (1979)
One of the best and clearest examples of the genius of a young Steve Martin, helmed here by the magnificent Carl Reiner, THE JERK remains one of the funniest films of its era and holds up quite well to this day. Navin (Steve Martin) believes he was born a poor black child in Mississippi. He is, however, actually white. Upon figuring this out, he heads north to St. Louis to find himself. After landing a job at a gas station, Navin is excited to discover his name printed in the new phone book. This ratification of his existence leads him from one misadventure to another — as he invents gadgets, dodges bullets, joins the carnival and seeks love in the arms of beautiful Marie (Bernadette Peters). LEONA (2021)

NANA (1926)
A government official, Count Muffat, falls under the spell of Nana, a young actress. She becomes his mistress, living in the sumptuous apartment which he provides for her. Instead of elevating herself to Muffat’s level, however, Nana drags the poor man down to hers—in the end, both lives have been utterly destroyed. (Blu-ray)

RED (2019)

After her father’s death and her uncle having drunk all the inheritance, Virginia is left alone. She is accepted by a family of bohemians but a quarrel between the bohemians and the peasants coerce her to flee the peasants’ riot. She is then helped by Raynal who falls in love with her but is too shy to tell her. Sheltered by his father, Virginia is robbed by her uncle of the money Raynal gave her to pay the bill in the village. He and his son then start to consider her a thief. (Blu-ray)
WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971)
Just in time for its 50th Anniversary, Warner Bros. yet again graces us with a stunning 4K disc of a beloved classic, this time in WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. While this disc sports no new bonus features, what you will find here is perhaps the most glorious treatment we’ll ever get for this film, which has for years only been shown in the (slightly) wrong aspect ratio, even as it arrived in HD several years ago. For the uninitiated, this bright and cheery technicolor dreamboat of a film tells the story of Charlie, a young boy in merry old England who goes to school by day and delivers newspapers – also by day – to support his mother and all four of his non ambulatory grandparents. Magically, Charlie wins the opportunity to visit the mysterious Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, a prize sought after by nearly every human being on the planet. Once behind the gates, a cast of characters join Charlie and Grandpa Joe (who can all of a sudden walk after Charlie wins his prize) on a journey to discover that a kind heart is a far finer possession than a sweet tooth. (4K UHD, Blu-ray)
THE WRAITH (1986)
Packed to the brim with absurd car races, semi-famous character actors and 1980s pop and rock hits, THE WRAITH comes to Blu-ray in the US for the very first time in a special Collector’s Series disc from Lionsgate. Set in a small Arizona town in which every resident is either a teenager or a cop, Jamie dies a horrible death before mysteriously returning from the dead as a supernatural, or possibly alien-created, street-racer driving an invulnerable supercar. His intent: to take revenge on the marauding gang of car-racing delinquents who murdered him. If you like cars and trucks and things that go boom, take a ride with THE WRAITH. (Blu-ray)
