New Releases for July 21!

It’s another long-awaited (at least since last week) New Release Tuesday!

First up is a real rarity, AROUND THE WORLD WITH ORSON WELLES (@ BLU SALE), a scarcely-seen series of six short travelogues originally written and directed by Orson Welles in 1955, for Britain’s then-new ITV channel.

Arrow’s been hitting it out of the park lately, and their newest release is no exception. The 1969 Spaghetti Western CEMETERY WITHOUT CROSSES (@ BLU SALE) is a genre highlight, an ultra-bleak existentialist revenge tale up there with classics like THE GREAT SILENCE. And the great Scott Walker performs the theme song!

We’d also be derelict in our duty if we didn’t report that the amazing FURIOUS (@ SALE) has finally made it to DVD! This is one of Scarecrow’s favorite cult classics, a truly wild no-budget sci-fi martial arts movie. Our podcast about the film way back in 2013 even wound up on this disc as a bonus feature!

As for the rest, don’t forget to check out the following: the Heroes at The Criterion Collection have Stephen Frears’ early drama MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE (@ BLU SALE). There’s an Alain Resnais double feature disc with LOVE UNTO DEATH and LIFE IS A BED OF ROSES (@ BLU SALE). And lots of horror this week: The AIP version of Bava’s BLACK SABBATH (@ BLU SALE), Karloff and Vincent Price in MADHOUSE (@ BLU SALE), 1967’s HOUSE OF 1,000 DOLLS (@ BLU SALE), also with Price, and late-80’s slasher I, MADMAN (@ BLU SALE). If that’s not enough of the scary stuff, the hilarious New Zealand vampire comedy WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (@ BLU SALE) is here too. Last but certainly not least, the late Brandon Lee (RIP) and the still-awesome Dolph Lundgren are awesome buddy cops in SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO (@ BLU SALE).
