When ls falls victim to a serious illness, Albrects loyal wife (Irene von Meyendorff) sacrifices her own happiness for the sake of her husband. Filmed in the rich, warm hues of the Agfacolor process (exquisitely restored by the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Stiftung), both films are heavy with mood, highlighted by feverish dream sequences that give sublime visual expression to the characters overwrought emotions.

KEN JACOBS COLLECTION (BLU-RAY) (1955-2021)
Ken Jacobs is one of the most wildly creative and influential film artists and teachers in the history of the medium, and Kino Classics is proud to present this two-disc selection from his vast body of work (additional titles will be available digitally via Kino Now). Jacobs, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1933, studied Abstract Expressionism with Hans Hofmann before turning to filmmaking where he became a prolific member of the underground scene, along with contemporaries Jonas Mekas, Jack Smith, and Stan Brakhage. His early films use NYC as a poetic landscape (Orchard Street) and as a setting for Smiths carnivalesque performances (Little Stabs at Happiness and Blonde Cobra both preserved by Anthology Film Archives). Jacobs then started experimenting with found footage, expanding a five-minute fragment of Billy Bitzers Tom, Tom, the Pipers Son to feature length (restored in 2K by Museum of Modern Art), and went on to embrace digital tools – using stroboscopic effects to turn silent shorts and Victorian stereoscopic photographs into mind-expanding 3D investigations (Capitalism: Child Labor). He continues to push the boundaries of the art form as you can see with his hypnotically abstract Movie That Invites Pausing (2021). In addition to his landmark films, which have been honored by the American Film Institute, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation, Jacobs (along with his wife Flo) founded the free film school Millennium Film Workshop, and he also helped create SUNY Binghamtons experimental Department of Cinema in 1969, where he became a Distinguished Professor and influenced generations of artists and scholars.

While Basquiat and Haring both died tragically young, Scharf lived through cataclysmic shifts inNew York City and the art world. If you can’t stand the sounds of strangers munching on popcorn at the movie theater then your time has finally come to see this movie distraction free! The sequel to A Quiet Place picks up where the last one ended. The Abbott family (minus the patriarch played by director John Krasinski, who appears in a flashback sequence in which he discovers at a truly shocking speed that the aliens are sound-sensitive) continue to fight for their survival and to find a way to fend off the aliens that have been killing everyone. Because we can’t just enjoy a movie in which a woman (Emily Blunt) is the only adult, Cillian Murphy joins the cast as an old family friend who is now a grief-stricken recluse. This movie left me with more questions than answers about things that will almost certainly not be addressed in the third film or the planned spin-off, but Millicent Simmonds put on another great performance that makes sticking with this series worthwhile.

Warwick Davis (LEPRECHAUN) and Jason Dugre (SAINT BERNARD) star – with an appearance by fandom legend Forrest J. VENGEANCE TRAILS: FOUR CLASSIC WESTERNS [LIMITED EDITION] (BLU-RAY)
In the mid-1960s, the runaway success of Sergio Leone’s “Dollars” trilogy gave rise to an explosion of similar productions as filmmakers by the dozen sought to capitalize on this new, uniquely Italian take on the western, characterized by their deeply cynical outlook, morally compromised antiheroes and unflinching depictions savage violence. This specially curated selection gathers together four outstanding examples of the genre from the height of its popularity, all centered around a theme of revenge. In Lucio Fulci’s Massacre Time (1966), Franco Nero and George Hilton star as estranged brothers forced to band together against the powerful businessman and his sadistic son who’ve seized control of their hometown. In Maurizio Lucidi’s My Name is Pecos (1966), Robert Woods stars as the eponymous Mexican gunslinger, returning to Houston to settle a long-standing score against the racist gang boss who wiped out his entire family. In Massimo Dallamano’s Bandidos (1967), Enrico Maria Salerno plays a former top marksman who, years after being maimed by a former protégé, teams up with a fresh apprentice to get his revenge against the man who betrayed him. Finally, in Antonio Margheriti’s And God Said to Cain (1970), the inimitable Klaus Kinski stars as a man who has spent the last decade in a prison work camp for a crime he didn’t commit and who, upon his release, immediately sets out to wreak vengeance on the men who framed him. Featuring a wealth of key Euro cult talent both behind and in front of the camera, Arrow Video is proud to present these four classic westerns in sparkling high definition restorations, three of them produced specially for this release, alongside a plethora of brand new bonus materials. (These titles all rent separately)
