This week the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have Sam Peckinpah’s beautiful, brutal, and very controversial story of violence and thwarted masculinity, STRAW DOGS (@ BLU). This is a real slow-burner but even to this day it’s graphic depictions of both murder and sexual assault remain extremely divisive amongst cinephiles and critics. But Peckinpah’s bitter worldview and tremendous control of style can’t be denied.
