It’s the last New Release Tuesday in March!
BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc
3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory
@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details)
First up, the 8th film from the guy who once walked from downtown Seattle just to see Scarecrow, Quentin Tarantino. THE HATEFUL EIGHT (@ BLU) is his latest opus, a three-hour chamber piece filmed in 70mm Ultra Panavision about a group of real scoundrels who find themselves trapped together in a remote cabin during a blizzard. Maybe Tarantino’s bleakest work but still a more than worthy entry and a quiet epic in its own right.

Then, the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have brought us A POEM IS A NAKED PERSON (@ BLU). Les Blank considered this free-form feature documentary about beloved singer-songwriter Leon Russell, filmed between 1972 and 1974, to be one of his greatest accomplishments. Yet it has not been released until now.

As for the rest, don’t forget to check out the following: Criterion has a blu-ray upgrade of Italian Neo-realist classic BICYCLE THIEVES (@ BLU). A giallo double feature from Luciano Ercoli with Arrow’s DEATH WALKS TWICE (@ BLU) set. Vinegar Syndrome has unearthed the exploitation gem PIGS (@ BLU) for you to wallow around in. Will Smith fights the NFL in CONCUSSION (BLU). A director’s cut of Michael Cimino’s little-seen THE SICILIAN (@ BLU). Some vintage horror with Shout’s DUNWICH HORROR / MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE (@ BLU) double feature disc as well as a new blu of 80’s slasher FRIGHTMARE (@ BLU). There was a POINT BREAK (BLU 3D) remake for some reason. THE GONG SHOW MOVIE (@ BLU) has never been available on home video until now…maybe with good cause? And for TV fans, we’ve got MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 300 VOL. 35 (@) and ARCHER: SEASON 6 (@ BLU).
