It’s another glorious New Release Tuesday!
BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc
3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory
@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details)
First up, something that shouldn’t be even remotely close to good, a TV spinoff. BREAKING BAD is rightly considered one of the best TV shows in recent memory (if not ever), and when it came to an end a couple of years ago it seemed like a perfect conclusion, and reports that a prequel series centering on crooked lawyer Saul Goodman felt like asking for trouble. After all, spinoffs usually suck. But BETTER CALL SAUL (@ BLU) is actually terrific, a great look at a character who reveals more layers than previously thought possible, a worthy extension of its source material, and just a darn good show even if you never heard of BREAKING BAD.
Then we’ve got THE BEATLES 1 (@ BLU), a new collection of 27 videos for the greatest band ever’s biggest hits, along with THE BEATLES 1+ (@ BLU), a deluxe package that adds a bonus DVD or Blu-ray featuring alternate versions of many videos as well as an expanded 124-page illustrated hardcover book.
As for the rest, don’t forget to check out the following: The heroes at the Criterion Collection bring Michael Haneke’s disturbing masterpiece CODE UNKNOWN (@ BLU). Ian McKellen plays an aging Sherlock in MR. HOLMES (@ BLU). Go further inside Amy Schumer with TRAINWRECK (@ BLU). French New Wave deep cut JE T’AIME, JE T’AIME (@ BLU) is like the original ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. Ryan Reynolds puts his mind in a healthy new body in SELF/LESS (BLU). Robots go back in time again (again) in TERMINATOR GENISYS (@ BLU 3D). Two camp classics starring Vincent Price with DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE BIKINI MACHINE (@ BLU) and DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMBS (@ BLU). Three vintage Clint Eastwood movies land on blu, COOGAN’S BLUFF (@ BLU), THE EIGER SANCTION (@ BLU), and PLAY MISTY FOR ME (@ BLU). FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD VOL. 9 (@) has 5 scandalous pre-code classics. And the original STAR WARS (@ BLU) movies are available in gorgeous steelbook editions.
