New Releases for October 20!

It’s another glorious New Release Tuesday!

First up, the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have brought us one of the most beautiful films ever made, the 1965 Japanese ghost story anthology KWAIDAN (@ BLU). Based on the short stories of Lafcadio Hearn, this film tells four short tales of revenge from beyond the grave. Although it takes place mostly outdoors it was filmed on huge, gorgeously surreal sets designed to heighten the artificial effect. Criterion has released the full 3-hour cut, never before available in the U.S.

Then, the biggest movie of the summer, another adventure in the most diabolically unsafe, ill-advised theme park on Earth, JURASSIC WORLD (@ BLU 3D). If you want to see two hours of dinosaurs eating especially stupid people, have we got the movie for you!

Vincent Price and Christopher Lee headline Poe adaptation THE OBLONG BOX (@ BLU). Turn of the century British gangster action in PEAKY BLINDERS (BLU). The BENOIT JACQUOT COLLECTION (@ BLU) is a three-pack of films from the contemporary French filmmaker. There’s Ub Iwerks classic cartoon WILLIE WHOPPER (BLU). Two Tales From the Crypt films arrive on blu, DEMON KNIGHT (@ BLU) and BORDELLO OF BLOOD (@ BLU). The BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY (@ BLU) gets a 30th Anniversary box set. Z FOR ZACHARIAH (BLU) is a post-apocalyptic romance. And on the documentary front, there’s Scientology expose GOING CLEAR (BLU) as well as THE WOLFPACK (BLU), about six brothers who’ve never been outside their New York apartment and know the world entirely from watching movies.
