New Releases for October 6!

It’s the first New Release Tuesday for October!

First up this week is one of the rare sequels that eclipses the original. If the first MAGIC MIKE was a thinly veiled parable for the 2008 economic crash in the guise of a movie about male strippers (trust us, it was), MAGIC MIKE XXL (@ BLU) is all about the recovery. Not just a fantastic road trip film, this is also a sex-positive, overtly feminist quasi-musical with a very diverse cast, and one of the best films of the year.

Then there’s WHEN MARNIE WAS HERE (@ BLU), unfortunately the last film from the legendary Studio Ghibli. Although master animator Hayao Miyazaki didn’t direct this, it bears many of his hallmarks, specifically a dash of the supernatural and a young girl’s coming of age story. Beautiful and bittersweet, it’s a terrific sendoff for the great studio.

Get in the holiday spirit a little early with the PEE-WEE’S PLAYHOUSE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (@ BLU). And lastly some great box sets just came in, including a complete set of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (@), THE HAMMER HORROR COLLECTION (@ BLU), and the NAKATOMI PLAZA DIE HARD COLLECTION (@ BLU).
