SHRIEK: A Women of Horror Film Series!
SHRIEK: A Women of Horror Film Series is a community education series that examines the roles of women in horror films. Discussion leader and film buff Evan J. Peterson has selected eight iconic films to demonstrate the varied roles of women in the genre: hero, villain, monster, mother, lover, and yes, victim. We will watch one film at 7PM each Tuesday during October and November, accompanied by a brief talk about the film and a community discussion. Films planned for discussion: Carrie (original), Rosemary’s Baby (original), The Silence of the Lambs, The Hunger, Alien, Candyman, The Fly (Cronenberg remake), and The Babadook.
The goal of this community series is to offer low-priced opportunities to learn about film and gender studies and to inspire more women to get involved as creators in the genre. Scarecrow Video hosts the series in their screening room. Concessions are available on site; please do not bring outside food or drink. We reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone under the influence of hard drugs or alcohol.
General Admission: $10 per session (Register HERE in Advance)
Seniors 65+ and Veterans with ID: $5 per session
Students with ID and the homeless: Free

Evan J. Peterson is a college professor, author, and journalist. He is a Clarion West alum, and he received his MFA from Florida State University. His writing has been featured in The Stranger, Weird Tales, Unspeakable Horror 2, Queers Destroy Horror, and The Rumpus. His books include The Midnight Channel, Skin Job, and Ghosts in Gaslight, Monsters in Steam: Gay City 5. He lives in Seattle with his werewolf, Dorian Greyhound.
